Rustic bed frame with storage are an affordable alternative to expensive bed frames. Even without extensive knowledge of construction, you can make a bed frame that will support the bed and improve the look of your bedroom. When making a bed frame, measure the bed itself and the space you have in your house; you may need to put the frame in pieces and mount it in the room to avoid getting caught in low doorways.
Slatted bed base
One of the easiest ways to make your own bed frame storage is to build a low, slatted floor platform. To do this, measure the length and width of your bed and buy six planks of sturdy wood that are about 4 inches shorter than the width. Look for boards that are approximately 9 to 12 inches wide for best support, or use a larger amount of narrower boards. Place the thick slices about 4 meters apart and lay the planks over them evenly distributed. You can sand the edges of boards and use paint or varnish to finish the frame, or you can leave it as it is.
Box Platform storage
If you want a bed that is raised to a certain height or if you do not have a box spring, you can build a drawer platform to support your mattress. Using a drill or hammer, secure the boards together in a rectangle shape that will be smaller than your mattress. On top of the frame, lay individual boards or slabs of plywood that are slightly shorter than the width. The extra length will support the overhanging sides of the mattress without being visible, creating the impression that the bed is floating on top of the platform.
